MEET THE XULIS

The Xuli are a nomadic people living in the deep jungle, northeast of Manuas, Brazil.
They are one of the last such peoples remaining. Living untouched by western civilisation
they have kept their ancient rituals and wisdom intact. They are animists and believe that
all living matter has a soul and should not be violated.

With the Xuli, everything of value is shared, as theyhave a highly generous, tolerant and
egalitarian society. The Xuli are noted for their practice of 'Mana' which means never taking
more than necessary. And they are never tempted either, because they know that disrupting
the equilibrium between nature and man leads to the destruction of both.

The Mana concept was adopted by the Siemens Wind Power and later developed into a strong
support for the local NGO, 'Liberdade para ospovos indigenas' which engages in lobbying to
help the Xuli preserve their way of life from further intrusion by deforestation and the Manuas
government.

The new, state-of-the-art Siemens wind turbine, SWT3.6-130 is also inspired by the Xuli
philosophy and has an absolute minimal impact onthe environment with zero emissions.
The rotor is made from one solid piece, which makes it more durable, with a minimum of
maintenance required. The highly sophisticated, interactive feather-blade design and the
direct drive, means less components, less joints, less gears… less problems.

Complex Simplicity

Mr I Thompson
Chief Executive
Dept. of Infrastructure
Isle of Man
British Isles

Dear Mr. Thompson,

My name is Henrik Stiesdal and I am the CTO at Siemens Wind Power. I would like to inform
you that we have conducted extensive research about the wind conditions on the Isle of Man.
And we were very pleased with the results. Our study shows that the Isle of Man, would in
many ways, be an ideal location for the development of a wind farm.

First, let me tell you a little about our company. Siemens Wind Power started as a search for a
green and sustainable alternative to fossil and nuclear power. Thirty years later, we lead the
industry and are most proud to announce an impressive efficiency but without the vicious/harmful
side effects that other power sources may create.

I am writing to you in regards to our latest achievement, the SWT 3.6 -130. A green machine with
an appetite for wind that the world has never seen before. The SWT 3.6 model contains the same
winning features as our earlier models but delivers 15% more efficiency. The highly sophisticated
feather-blade design and direct drive (no gears) meansless components, less joints,
less gears… less problems. We call it Complex Simplicity.

We believe in dialogue and close partnership. We grow and develop together with the
communities we invest in. Because all the power in the world won’t save a relationship built on a
weak foundation; we are a big company with big resources but with a most attentive ear – listening
carefully to your every concern. If there is any reason to believe that a wind farm would endanger
flora and fauna, compromise a landscape or its inhabitants, then there will be no development.
After all, the true value and future of a wind park is of course determined by its neighbours –
the consumers.

We would be most interested in meeting with you and give you a more comprehensive understanding
of our newest machine, energy planning and an Isle of Man with a sustainable future. If convenient,
I will give you a call next week to schedule a meeting.

Yours sincerely,

Henrik Stiesdal
